Farm-to-table dinners have become very popular, with attendees enjoying fresh ingredients from local farms. The annual All-Farm Dinner at Buttonwood Farm Vineyard and Winery takes farm-to-table to another level.
This fully functional farm located near Solvang, California produces a diverse range of food products – meats, fruits, vegetables, herbs and even wine – all from one beautiful property.
Everything on the table at the Buttonwood All-Farm Dinner is raised, grown and produced on the farm – from the milk that will later make up a yogurt sauce through to the flowers that will go into centerpieces.
Throughout the year, locals visit Buttonwood Farm for seasonal fruits, vegetables, flowers and wine. August is especially bountiful, making the All-Farm Dinner a perfect time to visit.
Buttonwood Farm peaches, pomegranates and other fruits are sold at a roadside stand, but at the All-Farm Dinner, guests can enjoy them prepared by local Chef Jeff Olsson while sitting right next to where they were grown.
While the sold-out event takes months to prepare for, on the afternoon of the All-Farm Dinner, the linens come out as a base for a beautiful setting amidst the cottonwood trees and grapevines.
The team at Buttonwood Farm Vineyard and Winery comes together to create a beautiful setting for 125 guests to dine next to their pond.
Every ingredient on the multi-course menu is sourced from the farm and vineyard – a true “farm to table” experience.
While the dinner opens with a wine reception and passed appetizers, tables of 8-10 people eat each course of fresh food family style.
As everyone settles in and the summer sun sets, the winemaker, Karen Steinwachs and others from the Buttonwood team talk about the year in wine and food from the farm and 37 acre vineyard.
It’s hard to tell what makes the food taste so amazing – is it being in this awe-inspiring setting where it was grown? It is simply the freshest food possible? Or maybe the collaboration between farmers, winemaker and chef?
Whatever it is that makes the Buttonwood All-Farm Dinner so special, it’s an annual food and wine event that shouldn’t be missed.
In August, the weather in the Santa Ynez Valley is perfect for an event like this, although there really isn’t a bad time of year to visit.
